Iowa State University students gain a global perspective on agriculture and life sciences
More than 120 students saw agriculture and the life sciences first-hand in countries around the world through various study abroad programs over the summer. The Ag Study Abroad Office offers students the chance to select a program based on their interest in the topic and the location. Through trips offered over breaks in the academic year, during the summer and semester-long exchanges or internships, students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences have been on all seven continents studying agriculture and life sciences.

Iowa State University students serve as Peer Mentors in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Nearly 150 upper class students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will be serving as Peer Mentors in the college's 20 Learning Communities for the 2016-2017 academic year. Mentors help new students in the college make the transition to life at Iowa State University. These selected Peer Mentors are often involved with organizing study groups, social events, and out-of-class activities. Graduating students in the Iowa State University Educator Preparation Program have been honored to designate their rank as professional educators. The graduates were bestowed with cords of light blue, the traditional color of academic tassels worn by those in the field of education, in a ceremony on Friday, May 6, in Stephen's Auditorium in Ames. The Iowa State University Educator Preparation Program comprises students and faculty in several colleges. The program is coordinated by the School of Education in the College of Human Sciences.

ISU's Culinary Science Club Recieves High Honors at the IPPA Taste of Elegance Contest
#IowaState Culinary Science students proved their merit by placing first at the Iowa Pork Producers Association's 2016 Student Taste of Elegance contest in early March. Combining in-class and lab experience with creativity, the team created a meal of Smoked/Braised Pork Shoulder with Saffron White Bean Puree, Heirloom Tomato Salad and Chorizo Croquette.

Iowa State University students participate in Borlaug Student Poster Competition
A group of thirteen undergraduate students from Iowa State University were selected to present their research on world food issues during a reception before the annual Norman Borlaug Lecture, given by the 2015 World Food Prize Laureate. The top three posters as judged by faculty received special recognition and a scholarship before the lecture, which begins World Food Prize Week.

Iowa State University students study the culinary world in Spain
Iowa State University students spent nearly two weeks learning culinary techniques in a study abroad experience to Spain, the hottest country in culinary arts. Students learned about the diversity of traditional Spanish cuisine and new culinary trends, worked with renowned chef instructors, and saw food production facilities. This is one of the many programs through the Agriculture Study Abroad Office, who has sent students to all seven continents.
